Carroll grew up on a 1751 King George Manor with his doctor parents on an equestrian center in Pennsylvania.  He was surrounded by handcrafted museum quality "Big Three" furniture and fine arts.  His pallet was tuned to custom handmade wallpaper, Audubon Elephant Leafs and Thomas Coles. Young Carroll sorted his stamp collection on their 200-year-old Persian rugs and ate at a Chippendale table.  Hand crafted grandfather clocks got them to school on time.

Although down to earth, authenticity is the norm.  He hates the phrase "good enough".

Fool's gold has never passed into his pocket. His discerning pallet has served him well in life.

Carroll started drawing with crayons to make loved ones smile, a sincerity he never lost with adulthood.  

But his ability to draw with scientific accuracy came through Museum of Natural Sciences, where he worked through college, dissecting insect anatomy with sharpened needles and drawing textbook style guides to identify species.  This background alone makes him a rare find - before his once-in-a-lifetime tutelage. What happened next made the true crown jewel.

The accuracy of his purple thistles caught the eye of one orphan prodigy Don Fco. Alcaraz of Spain. Who invited him to see his studio and learn to transform "accurate and pretty" into "bold and beautiful."
"Otra vez!" he would smile - "do it again and again - and don't be afraid of your colors!"

Today Carroll's originals grace the walls in good company with Picasso's and Chagalls - just like his Spanish Teacher. What a beautiful legacy!

As true artists do, without exception, everything in his life is for his art.  His emotional and spiritual maturity, his joy, pain, memories and plans. The light in the atmosphere and the shadows that hide from it all express themselves about the subject they surround. How could anyone get that from a scientist?
